Coldstore Energy Cost Control with NWCS

The "Night Wind" control system NWCS takes the energy price forecast as input, and instructs the refrigeration system when to switch to full power or when to reduce power. You "charge" your cold store with cold at the lowest energy price. When the price is high, the refrigeration system is switched off automatically.

To use NWCS ("light" version by Saint Trofee) you do not need your own windmill.

NWCS targets to run the refrigeration compressors at the lowest possible energy costs. The NWCS produces a setpoint for the conventional existing controller (PLC), and can easily be built into any coldstore refrigeration system - without changes to the refrigeration hardware.

How to install the NWCS at your cold store?

  • You need a minimum size of 100 kW electric power.
  • Based on your specification of typical products in your cold store, we check that these products do not lose quality under varying temperature conditions
  • We assist you in getting a contract for buying energy direct from the Amsterdam Power Exchange APX
  • The key data for your coldstore (refrigeration power, cooling down time, temperature limits, daily load, control system ect.) are evaluated by us.
  • We customise the NWCS for your site
  • We install an internet connected laptop PC with the NWCS at your site, and connect it to the existing refrigeration control system.
  • We do a full day performance test of the system at your site
